Building Block Creations
“Help me to carry!”
“Okay! Where should it be?”
“Just follow me!”
E, soon to be 5 years old, lifts a building block at one end, while her father takes the other end and lets her show him where it should be placed. It is carefully put edge to edge next to another building block. Kid brother F, 2.5 years old, rolls a small toy car on another block.
What started out as an experiment in shapes through the iteration of two building elements from a Japanese villa (House in Uehara by architect Kazuo Shinohara) has led to sprawled, large scale building blocks.
Since building blocks are considered a toy, I thought it suitable to invite those who know best about playing – children. Can I make a building kit for children, that encourages dialogue about space, objects and spatial qualities?
Byggklosskreationer
”- Hjälp mig bära!”
”- Okej! Var ska den vara?”
”- Följ mig bara! ”
